The Kenton Wildcats wrestling team travelled to Wapakoneta Thursday night to face the undefeated Redskins in dual meet action. The Redskins beatup the Wildcats 65-15 winning every contested match except one. Senior, Karson Davis, was the only wildcat to win his bout.
Due to some sickness and injuries, the dual only had five contested matches. Wapak was able to pick up seven forfeits while giving two back to Kenton at 190 lbs (Isaiah Poland) and 215 lbs (Matthew Handell). Logan Kapanka – 120, Harrison Brien – 132, Michael Hare – 175 and Brison Laubis – 285 all dropped tough matches.
Davis faced Lane Fisher at 138 lbs. Fisher secured the first takedown, but Davis was able to escape to score a point in the first period making the score 3-1. Davis deferred the second period and Fisher chose to start in the bottom position and scored on a reversal. However, Davis then overtook control and achieved a reversal of his own. The match after the second period left Davis down by two points (5-3) going into the third. However, Davis chose to start on bottom in the last period, gained an escape and finished the match with a late takedown to Fisher’s back scoring an additional four back points to win the thrilling match 11-5.
The Wildcats are back in action hosting St. Marys next Thursday, Feb. 6th. This will be the team’s last dual meet at home and will be Senior night and the annual Alumni night as well. All past wrestlers and coaches are invited to get together and cheer on the current wrestlers!
