The Kenton Wildcats traveled to Alabama to compete in the National Select 7-on-7 Passing Tournament this weekend.
The Wildcats won the 2013 national title and made the trip to Hoover, Alabama over the weekend to take part in the 2014 event.
The Wildcats went 4 and 3 in pool play on Friday. That was good enough for a 4th-place finish in their 8-team pool. That earned them the 13th seed overall out of 32 teams for Saturday's double-elimination championship tournament.
Kenton won its first 2 games on Saturday before falling by 2 points to Spanish Fort, an Alabama school that is coming off back-to-back state championships. The Cats won their first game in the loser's bracket before dropping a 9-point decision to #1 overall seed Brandon, Mississippi.
Warren Easton out of Louisiana won the tournament, with Spanish Fort finishing second and Brandon placing third.
The Cats, who have won four 7-on-7 passing tournaments this summer, went 7 and 5 overall at the national tournament.
The Wildcats begin their regular season on August 29th when they host Coldwater. That game, like every other Kenton High School football game, will be carried live on WKTN.
