On June 6, 2014 at 5:37 a.m., the Union County Sheriff's Office received a report of a three car crash on State Route 31, just north of the State Route 347 intersection. Deputies along with Fire and Medical personnel from Marysville, Raymond, Allen Township and Northern Union County Fire District responded to the scene.
Pronounced dead at the scene, by the Union County Coroner, was Oscar M. Hamby, age 60, of 323 Kuert Ave., Kenton, Ohio 43326. Mr. Hamby was traveling southbound on State Route 31 in a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country van. Hamby was following another southbound vehicle being driven by Sarah Jackson, age 36 of County Road 209, Mt. Victory, Ohio. Jackson was transported to Memorial Hospital of Union County and later transferred to OSU hospital and is listed in serious condition. A passenger in the Jackson vehicle, Marcus Jackson, age 29, also of County Road 209 Mt. Victory, Ohio was not injured in the crash.
A third vehicle, traveling northbound on State Route 31, was driven by a Kaleb Nebel, age 19, of Wellwood Road, West Mansfield, Ohio. Nebel was transported to Memorial Hospital of Union County and later transferred to OSU hospital. Nebel's condition was also listed as serious.
Investigators from the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team (MCCIT) will continue their investigation into the crash to determine what caused the three vehicles to collide with each other. The MCCIT team consists of Deputies from the Champaign, Hardin, Logan and Union County Sheriff's Offices. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Department of Transportation and the Union County Emergency Management Agency assisted the MCCIT team with traffic control while State Route 31 was shut down for more than four hours. The road way was re-opened at 9:42AM.
